Augmented Reality Mirror
May 2025
Master Thesis. Building a digital version of a physical mirror for use in psychology research, using AR and computer vision.
For my master thesis, I produced an (out of scope) Augmented Reality Mirror called MIRA. The mirror aims to simulate the behaviour of a real mirror, using computer vision to determine user position, and calculating the correct 'reflection' based on that.
Additionally, the mirror is able to augment the image it produces. For this research, the mirror added a stain to people's clothing, prompting a behavioural response. This was done to gain insight on the effect such a system can have on the self-perception of a person. The system was found effective and shows great potential for future work.
Below are some pictures of the prototype, as well as a link to the thesis paper.
